Fishy Fashions

Sea creatures come in many colours and patterns that help them survive, some use their colours and patterns to camouflage in with their surroundings so predators don't see them. Others use their colours and patterns to warn other creatures that they are poisonus.

Western Clown
The Western Clown has a very striking pattern of oranges, white and black. They live in Sea Anemone which are poisonous to other fish. Prey is attracted to the bright colours of the Western Clown and are then stung by the Sea Anemone and die, providing a good meal for both the Western Clown and the Sea Anemone.

Common Lionfish
The Common Lionfish have orange and white stripes. they warn other creatures to stay away because they have long fins and spines along their bodies that are poisonous to other creatures.

Black Tip Reef Shark
The Black Tip Reef Shark has a well defined black tip to its dorsal fin and its lower tail fin and grows to about 5 feet which is smaller compared to sharks like the Tiger Shark and the Great White Shark

Painted Moray Eel
The Painted Moray Eel is white with brown spots. Instead of scales, they have a layer of mucus which covers the body and protects the skin from germs and parasites. They have a long dorsal fin along the top of their bodies.

Polyp Butterflyfish
The Polyp Butterflyfish has a yellow body with thin black stripes along it. Its tail fin is almost all black but also has white and blue in it too. There are many varieties of Butterfly fish all with amazing colours and patterns.

Royal Angelfish
The Royal Angelfish is also yellow and has wonderful stripes made up of black, blue and white. It has a blue dorsal fin and a yellow tail fin. It can grow up to 30 centimetres long.
