Pontins -
Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park

Rhyl SeaQuarium has an open seafront location and sits on the beautiful North Wales coastline.

We would like to welcome all new explorers to join us on a voyage of discovery as we travel beneath the waves, from tranquil fresh waters to the cold depths of the abyss. Along the way we will encounter the strangely shaped sturgeon, as well as sharks found off our very own coast and rays that glide effortlessly through the water.

We will also find solitary lobsters, conger eels and mystical axolotls before entering the Lethal Reef, home to some of the most poisonous animals on our planet. These are just a few of the amazing, strange and beautiful animals that await us on our adventure.

Seal of approval!

A frozen Mackerel cake would seem a strange birthday treat for most, but for an African Fur Seal like Solo, it has her seal of approval, and it was the perfect present to mark her first birthday at her new home within the Sealion Cove at Rhyl SeaQuarium.

The team at Rhyl SeaQuarium are celebrating her special day throughout the holiday period alongside her new Seal friend’s, Tondy, Sefur and Bronze who are all looking forward to enjoying their favourite food and hope Solo leaves some cake for them to eat!

Zoe Kelly, Seal Keeper, said Solo was “one of the more special animals” at the aquarium, as she is the youngest African Fur Seal and we all feel like she’s the baby of the pod.
Zoe Kelly said, new enrichment toys and the mackerel treat were on Solo’s present list this year to help celebrate her birthday, and turning 14!

“She’s not really supposed to be eating that much Mackerel, it’s a bit of a treat, but we’ll have to watch her weight.”

Attractions Manager Colette Macdonald said “Visitors throughout the holidays will be selected to help feed Solo as part of the shows, as she loves to interactive with our visitors, this will be a great birthday celebration for Solo”.
Solo’s curious nature and beauty have generated much attention since she made her debut at the aquarium during the Easter Holidays.

Zoe said “She is very curious and very interactive, and when people see her, the first thing they say is, ‘Isn’t she beautiful?’ and she is the most popular seal that visitors ask to meet after the shows.
“When she does want feeding you can hear her all over the aquarium because she lets you know when she’s hungry or when she’s not getting enough attention from us.”

Why not pop down to Rhyl SeaQuarium, to see Solo the new arrival and her friends at the Sea Lion Cove, and take part in the daily interactive sealion show. Open from 10am daily.
