| There’s been a Baby Boom at the Weston SeaQuarium, a generous donation of fish has resulted in SeaQuarium becoming the proud adoptive parents of a shoal of 30 Baby Clownfish. Only now, after weeks of careful monitoring and many a late night by the aquarists, are we able to put these colourful creatures on display for our visitors to enjoy throughout the Summer season. With over 20 different species of Clownfish, with varying vibrant colours, our Babies are un-mistakenly the double of everyone’s favourite – Nemo! These colourful characters with colour schemes as vibrant as the face paints of a circus clown are currently on display within our Fish Hospital before they are re-homed within our Crustacean Cove Zone. Fishy Fact: Clownfish typically inhabit anemones, normally this would be a dangerous place for most fish, especially with their stinging tentacles, but not for these guys. Clownfish have a special relationship with the anemone, they give the anemone food in return for a safe hiding place away from predators. Fishy Fact: Women are definitely the boss when it comes to Clownfish. Like our shoal, the most dominant fish turns into the large female, with the second most dominant turning into her slightly smaller male companion. Our Colourful Clownfish will be on show throughout the Summer Holidays in the SeaQuarium, Marine Parade, Weston super Mare, BS23 2PX |
