Rhyl SeaQuarium has an open seafront location and sits on the beautiful North Wales coastline.
We would like to welcome all new explorers to join us on a voyage of discovery as we travel beneath the waves, from tranquil fresh waters to the cold depths of the abyss. Along the way we will encounter the strangely shaped sturgeon, as well as sharks found off our very own coast and rays that glide effortlessly through the water.
We will also find solitary lobsters, conger eels and mystical axolotls before entering the Lethal Reef, home to some of the most poisonous animals on our planet. These are just a few of the amazing, strange and beautiful animals that await us on our adventure. |

| Come rain or shine this Summer SeaQuarium’s South African Fur seals are going sporting mad at team SQ boot camp, as they embrace everything athletic in a bid to see who is the best all round athlete in the Sealion cove. They will be testing their abilities in everything from shot put to triple jump and beach volleyball to football. Mammal keeper Stacy Adams says ‘our youngest fur seal, Solo, has really been getting into the spirit of things and has been training hard to make sure she is as good as the athletes you see on television’. Naturally in the wild the seals would need their fitness and agility for catching fast moving fish and escaping from predators so they like to stay in shape and even go on a diet for the summer period to lose their winter weight just like we do. | SeaQuarium Rhyl are celebrating the Jubilee weekend in their own unique way with a Talent show where two seals will compete against each other. The audience are going to have the vote on which seal should win the contest and the winning seal will make an appearance in front of the SeaQueen. The resident Fur seals, Tondy and Solo, will need lots of encouragement from the audience to put on their best performance along side their keeper Stacy. Stacy said “Both seals have been practicing their routines daily and every time the seals see the union Jack, Tondy salutes and Solo takes a bow”. It should be a close contest and lots of fun for all to see as we have a special Union Jack meal of fish in ice for the winner of the Talent show and both seals would love to win this treat. Easter came early for the staff at SeaQuarium when they were surprised to find their Ocean tank had 30 ray egg cases when Corey Prendergast, aged 5 from Rhyl, pointed to them and asked what they were? Aquarist Martyn Chandler said: ‘We were very shocked to see so many egg cases turn up overnight in the tank as we haven’t had any hatch for a few years at the aquarium’. Martyn added: “The fertile eggs will then go on display in special nursery tanks where visitors will be able to watch them grow and develop and eventually, we hope, hatch into babies”. Also known as Mermaid’s purses, the beautiful transparent pouches clearly show the growing embryos getting ready to hatch. Visitors can also touch and feel empty casings in the daily touch pool demonstrations. Read More > |
