Lobster, Common (Homarus gammarus)

The common lobster is a large lobster that can grow up to a metre in length but most stay at about 50cm long.

It is blue in colour with light spots and a yellowish underside. It also has bright red antennae.

The first pair of legs are massive pincers which are very strong and its body is slightly granular to the touch.

Fun Facts...

The female lobster carries her eggs round on her walking legs for around 9 months.

The young hatch as plankton but young lobsters are not often found, so little is know about their behaviour at this early stage.
