Tennis fever hits SeaQuarium Rhyl
Release Date: Thursday 20 June 2013
As tennis fever hits Britain this fortnight the resident South African Fur Seals at Rhyl SeaQuarium are gearing up for this year’s Wimbledon with a tennis competition of their very own.
The seals will be getting warmed up for their matches by testing out their speed, strength and agility, before showing off their serving and ball skills as they compete to become the ultimate SeaQuarium tennis champion.
Mammal keeper Martyn Chandler says ‘naturally in the wild, seals need to keep fit and agile so they can catch fast moving fish and escape from predators, their fitness makes them well suited for competitions and they love showing off to crowds of people’.
To really make you feel like you are at the championships we will be selling strawberries and ice cream in our restaurant, and we won’t be forgetting the seals, they will also be getting treats of their favourite fish frozen in refreshing ice throughout the day.
The seals will be competing to be crowned tennis champion at 1pm daily with additional shows at 3pm and feeding demonstrations with our Harbour seals at 12pm and 4pm. You can also watch as we feed the rays, sharks and other fish on display in either our Ray display or our Underwater Ocean tunnel at 2pm every day.
