Christmas has come early to SeaQuarium Rhyl
Release Date: Monday 09 December 2013
Father Christmas arrived early this year at Seaquarium ready to start meeting visitors in his newly built grotto. The grotto was specially built by his elves and opened on 30th November and will remain open right up until 24th December when Santa has to leave to deliver all his presents across the world.
Visitors to see Santa will receive a special early Christmas present from the great man himself and SeaQuarium were not forgotten as he bought them a present in the form of two turkeyfish.
Zoe Kelly, Display’s Manager says ‘We are delighted with Santa’s gift. Turkeyfish are more commonly known as the Lion fish and are now on display to the public’. She added ‘Viewed from the right angle, the ornate fins of the lionfish resemble turkey plumage. That's why 'turkeyfish' is one of the many imaginative names people use when referring to the lionfish’.
Lionfish are native to the Indo-Pacific, but are now established along the southeast coast of the U.S., the Caribbean, and in parts of the Gulf of Mexico. Since lionfish are not native to Atlantic waters, they have very few predators. They are carnivores that feed on small crustaceans and fish. They also have venomous spines, which can inflict a painful sting, these are used when hunting and make prey feel cornered before being eaten, usually whole!
The Grotto packages include a welcome from the elves, meeting Santa in his magical grotto, a lovely present and a souvenir photo in a festive wallet to take home. Not forgetting the adults, their Christmas treat includes a delicious cup of hot chocolate served with a snowy topping and a warm mince pie all included in the price.
