SEAQUARIUM SET TO CELEBRATE
Release Date: Monday 18 May 2015
Staff at SeaQuarium Weston-super-Mare are busy gearing up for their 20th Anniversary celebrations that take place on 30th and 31st May 2015.
This lively tourist attraction occupying a beachfront location that is surrounded by three miles of sand along the coast of Somerset first opened it doors to the public on Wednesday, 7th June 1995. It was built upon the first seaside pier to be constructed in Great Britain for almost a century.
Whilst the centre has maintained many of its original features and exhibits, there have been some popular additions over the years. The most dramatic change occurred in 2014, when its ‘Fantastic Phobias’ exhibit was created. A move from the traditional style of exhibits usually found in aquariums, Fantastic Phobias is home to a variety of small animals that challenge visitors to face their fears – such as rats, spiders and insects.
The 20th anniversary year saw the opening of ‘Clownfish Cove’ – a new exhibit featuring one of the family favourite sea creatures at SeaQuarium. Visitors get the chance to meet the staff and learn more about this colourful and unusual species.
The centre also features 10 different zones with 30 exhibits, including an underwater walk-through tunnel and an open-topped British ray display.
Attraction Manager, Leanne Mitchell, said ”I shall never forget visiting the SeaQuarium when it first opened for a friends 5th birthday party. I still remember walking through the underwater tunnel and stopping to gaze at the big silver fish swimming above my head. They seemed so close. Little did I think at the time that one day I would not only work here, but also become the Attraction Manager”.
SeaQuarium’s 20th birthday celebrations take place throughout the weekend of 30th and 31st May 2015. There will be the chance to meet costume character Sid the Shark, join in with a variety of competitions and activities, as well as the chance to enjoy some extra special birthday treats.
SeaQuarium is open daily from 10.00am, including Bank Holidays. Admission costs £8.50 for adults, £6.50 for children and £7.50 for concessions. Admission is free for children under three years old. Prices include a re-entry hand stamp that allows visitors to come and go as they please during the day of issue.
