FUNDRAISING FOR THE OCEAN SET INTO MOTION
Release Date: Tuesday 24 May 2016
Staff at SeaQuarium Weston are getting ready to hold a week-long Love Oceans Event for Whitsun half-term.
From 28th May - 5th June, guests can participate in a week full of family fun, fishy facts and crafts to highlight all that is to love about the deep blue ocean and its inhabitants.
The aim of the week is to raise awareness of the threats the world’s oceans face and to share some interesting facts, with extra talks and demonstrations taking place throughout the day.
This year, guests will be treated to a microscopic view of the wonders that can live in a single drop of sea water in our Discover Oceans sessions. Lead by our aquarists, they will be given the chance to identify and learn about the fascinating creatures hidden inside.
It’s not all about learning though, as children and grown ups of all ages can get hands on in the craft club, where they will be given the opportunity to create their own fishy creature to take home.
As part of Love Oceans Week, there will also be chance to take part in a fantastic interactive trail for a small fee, learn more about the SeaQuarium’s under water inhabitants and earn a Love Oceans sticker and prize!
Hayley Spearing, Displays Aquarist, said, “Love Oceans Week is my favourite event here at the aquarium. It gives me the opportunity to educate our guests on a subject I am passionate about, as well as raising money for a great charity, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS). This is a charity that we all feel passionate about and support actively. We often take part in the beach cleans organised by the MCS and feel that we can help spread their vision with a fun event, such as Love Oceans Week.”
The Marine Conservation Society is a UK based charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife. Their vision is for seas rich in wildlife, with plentiful fish stocks and pollution free beaches and bathing waters - seas that are for wildlife to thrive in and people to enjoy. Seas that will support future generations with abundant resources. It champions the need for marine wildlife protection, sustainable fisheries and clean seas and beaches.
