LOVE YOUR AQUARIUM WEEK AT SEAQUARIUM WESTON!
Release Date: Thursday 08 February 2018
Staff at SeaQuarium Weston are getting ready to hold a week-long event to celebrate the wonders of the ocean.
Love Your Aquarium Week will run from 10-18 February and will allow guests to explore the deep blue ocean, learn fishy facts and meet some of its inhabitants. Guests can also participate in craft making, trails and competitions.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the ever increasing threats the world’s oceans face and to share some interesting facts, with extra talks and demonstrations taking place throughout the week.
This year, guests will be treated to a microscopic view of the wonders that can live in a single drop of sea water in the Discover Oceans sessions. Led by experienced aquarists, guests will be given the chance to identify and learn about the fascinating creatures hidden inside.
As guests learn about why staff love the aquarium and ocean, they will be able to create their very own aquarium to take home with them in the Craft Club.
One of the largest threats to the ocean and its inhabitants is plastic and rubbish. The team at Seaquarium Weston are passionate about cleaning up our beaches and reducing plastic in the ocean. SeaQuarium participates in multiple beach cleans each year in conjunction with the Marine Conservation Society - a charity of which the centre is passionate about and actively support.
There will also be the chance to win an aquarium soft toy in the Plastic Competition, where guests will have the chance to guess the amount of plastics in the jar. All the plastic collected in the jar has been hand collected during a beach clean by one of our aquarists. Funds raised from the competition will be donated to the Marine Conservation Society.
Emily Douglas, Displays Aquarist, said, “I am really looking forward to this years Love Your Aquarium Week, as I can share my passion with our guests and teach them how they can take part in taking care of our oceans and marine life. One person can make a difference, no matter how small.”
As part of Love Your Aquarium week, there will also be a chance to take part in a fantastic interactive trail for a small fee, learn more about the SeaQuarium’s under water inhabitants and earn a Love Your Aquarium sticker and prize!
