Male Show-offs at SeaQuarium Weston.
Release Date: Wednesday 12 June 2013
As we start to celebrate the favourite men in our lives this Fathers Day, SeaQuarium wants to celebrate their biggest male show-offs. The most impressive and proud being their 15 year old Unicorn Surgeonfish (Naso unicornis) named for the unicorn-like horn on its head.
In the aquatic world it is often the male that makes all the effort to win over a mate by developing stunning colours or, in this case, a horn to impress their more dull and simple-looking female counterparts.
Sometimes the show-off males can cause havoc at SeaQuarium as they try to frantically win the affections of their female tank mates. The black bream within the SeaQuarium ocean tank is tirelessly clearing the gravel from the bottom of the tank in an attempt to show what a great father it would be if the female chose to lay eggs there.
At Seaquarium Weston-super-Mare this weekend dads can join the "Hands On" team as they feed the well deserving loyal male fish; they can see the black bream hard at work in their ocean tank and the ask staff how to spot a male shark from a female during a visit to the touch pools to encounter a shark egg. There is also the opportunity for children to make a special Seaquarium inspired Father's Day card during creative play sessions.
Weston-super-Mare SeaQuarium is open daily with last admissions at 5pm, closing at 6pm, for the Fathers Day weekend.
